Mourilyan virus (MoV) is a virus that infects penaeid prawns and causes mortality and reduced growth. It belongs to the family Phenuiviridae and has four segments of positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome of about 26 kb. MoV was first identified in Australia in 2004 and is related to other bunya-like viruses that infect crustaceans and insects. MoV has spherical to ovoid enveloped particles that measure 85 × 100 nm in diameter and possess four structural proteins: spike (S), envelope (E), membrane (M), and nucleocapsid (N). MoV can be transmitted by horizontal contact or ingestion of infected tissues or water. MoV infection can cause whitening of muscles, necrosis of tissues, reduced growth, and mortality in prawns. This kit is based on real-time reverse transcription PCR to detect mourilyan virus (MoV).
