Penicillium spp. are a group of filamentous fungi that are commonly found in soil, air, and decaying plant material. These fungi are well known for their ability to produce antibiotics, including penicillin, which has been widely used in medicine to treat bacterial infections. Penicillium spp. are also important in food production, as they are used to make various types of cheese, such as blue cheese and Roquefort. These fungi have a unique ability to break down complex organic matter, making them valuable decomposers in the ecosystem. The kit is based on real-time PCR technology to detect Penicillium spp.
