The CD MGMT Methylation Detection Kit is a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based assay that determines the methylation status of the MGMT promoter region by amplifying the MGMT promoter region of silenced view genes with allele-specific primers to determine the methylation status of the region. Each assay kit provides primer/probe sets for multiplexed detection of the MGMT promoter and internal control genes.
MGMT promoter methylation status is an important biomarker for determining responsiveness to alkylating agent chemotherapy in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). For better diagnosis and prognosis of GBM patients, alkylating agent chemotherapy is often administered after MGMT promoter methylation. This is because MGMT promoter methylation n increases sensitivity to alkylating agents such as temozolomide.
