Brucella is a type of bacteria that can cause brucellosis, a disease that affects both animals and humans. The bacterium is primarily transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected animals or consumption of contaminated animal products such as unpasteurized milk, cheese or meat. Symptoms of brucellosis in humans can include fever, chills, sweats, fatigue, joint pain, and headache.
