Listeria spp. is a group of bacteria that can cause serious foodborne illness in humans, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and the elderly. They are commonly found in contaminated food, such as deli meats and soft cheeses. Symptoms of infection include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal distress, and it can lead to severe complications such as meningitis and sepsis. The kit is based on a PCR reaction for the detection of Listeria spp. in food and environmental samples.
