Soybean SNP Panel

The soybean genome is an intricate tapestry of genetic information composed of approximately 1.1 billion base pairs distributed across 20 chromosomes. SNPs are the most common type of genetic variation in the human and plant genomes. They involve single-base substitutions, where a single nucleotide differs between individuals within a species. By identifying and studying SNPs within the soybean genome, scientists can gain insights into genetic diversity, gene function, and breeding strategies.

Product Information

Our Soybean SNP Panel is a robust collection of 1,326 strategically selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are highly informative for soybean genotyping. It consists of two key components: the Genomic Screen and the Trait Markers, each serving a distinct purpose in soybean genetic analysis.

Genomic Screen

Our Genomic Screen section comprises 1,242 markers originally derived from the esteemed Soybean SNP 50K array.

This process involved several considerations:

  • Large linkage blocks: SNPs within the same large linkage blocks in the North American elite population were reduced to avoid redundancy.
  • Even spacing: SNPs were selected with even spacing between them in segments of the genome outside the major haplotype blocks, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
  • Euchromatic and heterochromatic regions: The location of SNPs in euchromatic and heterochromatic regions of the genome was taken into account, optimizing their representation across the genome.
  • Minor allele frequency (MAF): SNPs with an average MAF of 0.36 among 562 elites were chosen, ensuring a diverse and representative panel. The minimum MAF requirement was set at MAF > 0.10.

Trait Markers

Trait markers are specific genetic markers associated with particular traits or characteristics of interest in soybeans. These markers provide valuable information for researchers and breeders to understand and manipulate soybean traits. In this particular panel of markers, there are 84 markers that have been embedded within gene sequences or associated with various phenotypic characteristics.

These markers cover a diverse range of traits, including:

  • Growth Habit and Morphological Features: The markers can provide insights into soybean plant architecture, branching patterns, height, leaf morphology, and other physical characteristics related to growth habit.
  • Biochemical Qualities: The markers can help in understanding the biochemical composition of soybean seeds, such as protein content, oil content, fatty acid composition, and other important seed quality attributes.
  • Environmental Tolerances: Certain markers may be associated with traits related to environmental tolerances, such as drought tolerance, heat tolerance, cold tolerance, or resistance to specific environmental stresses.
  • Disease Resistance: The markers can indicate the presence of genetic factors associated with resistance to various diseases that affect soybean plants, including common pathogens or pests.
  • Life Cycle Attributes: Some markers may provide insights into the life cycle attributes of soybeans, including early maturity or late maturity traits, which can be important for adapting soybean varieties to specific regions or growing conditions.
